Out Of Focus

Deeply Moved by the current developments in the media and the political corridors, I couldnt stop myself from posting even though I am in the thick of my exams.

What started off as a very optimistic month, with India winning in the World Cup after 28 years and the massive public support to Anna Hazare's anti-corruption campaign seems to have lost course. All the politicos would be extremely happy as the focus has now shifted from anti-graft to face saving for civil society members of the JanLokpal Panel. The corrupt forces, showing extraordinary solidarity, took out a pseudo-maligning campaign and assisted by an irresponsible media have succeeded at creating doubt. By impugning the members of the civil society in the drafting committe against corruption, they have generalized it. The media, instead of understanding that the aim of such smear campaigns is only to weaken the fight against corruption, has played into the hands into such forces. Cynics continue to roar at top of their voices, none of who have a better solution. Just sticking to "law of the land" wouldn't do in changing times. The timing of IPL has assisted to divert the attention as well.

Unneccesary and irresponsible comments from all 3 sides of the society viz. politcos, media and the intellectuals, who are responsible for fighting corruption, have weakened this movement considerably. Digvijay Singh continues to spit out venom as an ongoing move to appease his masters. Also, the entire clangor over Narendra Modi was irrequited. I mean what's the point of mentioning someone, when he is nowhere related to the issue in hand (It just doesnt matter what Anna said). As far as the opposition is considered, BJP is playing safe by not issuing any comments at all. People are now used to the silence from 7 Race Course and 24 Akbar Road. Whether they say something or not, a miasma of feebleness emits from them.

Hopes of people which had lit up during Anna Hazare's campaign are fading, and there better be done something about it. Or else it would be very hard to save the country from the abyss of doom and despair.
